Meet the teachers at The Music Garden!

Emily Tallant, BME, MM
Emily Tallant holds degrees in Music Education from the University of Houston (M.M.) and The University of Tulsa (B.M.E., flute and voice). A former choir director and private flute teacher, she sings with Cantaré Houston, and plays flute and piccolo in her church orchestra. Emily began teaching at The Music Garden in 2017 under the mentorship of Leilani Miranda. A homeschool mom of two boys who once took Music Garden classes themselves, she loves helping children grow through music.

Johanna Barmore
Johanna Barmore has been a dedicated music teacher for over 20 years. She has taught private clarinet and piano lessons, and has also taught various ages in elementary music. Her concentration is in clarinet and also has a masters in music from Brooklyn College. Her time in New York City enriched her musical experiences performing with the Gateway Orchestra. Currently, back home in Katy, Mrs. Barmore homeschools her seven year old son and six year old daughter. She is loving this stage of her life and embracing the love of teaching music with babies and toddlers with The Music Garden. She looks forward to the joy of sharing music with the little ones and their parents!

James Winslow
James Winslow holds a degree in music from Rice University and is certified as a music teacher (early childhood-high school) by the state of Texas. James brings decades of experience as a teacher, singer, instrumentalist, and conductor (choral and orchestral), and has performed in more than 30 productions and world premieres as a regular member of the Houston Grand Opera Chorus. He has taught students from age two through 95 in private lessons, public schools, and private schools – including The Post Oak School. James is currently at St Catherine’s Montessori as the Creative Expression and Music Guide and is a soloist/section leader and associate conductor at First Presbyterian Church, Houston.
